It’s hard not focus on what man is doing here on earth and the amount of evil all around us right now. I heard as clear as day while laying in bed the other day, “BUT WHAT IS GOD DOING?”
It startled me. I was like wide awake after that. Like how lame to think, He’s shrunk back, backed away whimpering at man’s evil or retreating in fear of man’s ideas. Thinking the presidency can save us or the state can. I’ve fallen for that too.
It’s literally insane to even consider or believe that evil has won or will ever win. We are so frail to be in fear- even for a second. He notes over and over how weak and fragile we are and He constantly reminds us to “take courage” and “be strong and courageous.” He knows us, He created us.
I think I see the most fear in Christians. I know that’s a broad statement. So let’s know I don’t mean that as an absolute statement, but one where I see more than ever in my 48 years of life… more Christians I know more fearful than ever. Why the fear? If we are truly Bible believing Christ followers…why the fear? Why to constantly allowing the news and evil around us to cause us to shrink back and hide? Why the fear to speak the Truth?
The world around us has been evil since the “original sin” (Genesis). Why are we so surprised? I have come to believe that that Bible illiteracy has played a huge role in this. It always comes down to this… Is the Bible the true unchanging Word of God or isn’t it? It can’t be both… it can’t be partially right or wrong. It’s one or the other. And guess what? That means the world won’t like what it says. Even I don’t like all that it says. It makes me feel convicted and uncomfortable many times. But that’s too bad.
As I find hard things in His Word, I also find comfort that I can’t find anywhere else on earth. Believe me, I’ve tried. The Bible isn’t just a set of moral rules for our lives… it’s the only source of Truth, all of reality. Truth can be known and it is a person…. Jesus. I do believe we have the chaos now because the Church has found itself in the comfort of this world, easy on the Word of God and thinking we can out love God. We find His Word harsh and want to water it down… and that never works. We don’t want to appear harsh or mean, that will never work. I don’t say we go around being harsh and mean, but we do need to speak Truth to this world. We then rob others of what conviction does… it brings us to repentance and then true healing in our lives. Christians why the fear? We have a Savior, and why would the world want a our Savior if even we don’t believe or live out what we preach? Where’s the Joy?
I believe the fear is because of deep conformity to the world in many areas and on many levels.
This gave me a lot to think about. IMO God isn't the god of fear, He is the God of Hope. Maybe you can't have hope unless there is also fear, or good unless there is also evil.
"Is the Bible the true unchanging Word of God or isn’t it?" To me, it is a history, of the human struggle to find God and to be found by God. The end of the story is: you are saved.
